There are 3 main types of food hazards that you must be familiar with.

They are: Biological, Chemical, and Physical food hazards.

1. Biological Food Hazards

Biological hazards include microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, yeasts, molds parasites and fungi. Some of these are pathogens or may produce toxins. A pathogenic microorganism causes disease and can vary in the degree of severity.

2. Chemical Food Hazards

Chemical hazards are any types of chemicals that may get into food. Chemicals that are ingested can cause serious illnesses or even death. Chemical hazards include: sanitizers, cleaning agents, and pest control products.

3. Physical Food Hazards

Physical hazards are foreign objects that are found in food products. They can cause severe injury if ingested. They can be found naturally in certain foods, such as stems in fruit, seeds, fish bones, etc.

Other physical hazards can be either intentionally or accidentally placed inside food, such as nails, thumbtacks, broken pieces of glass, metal, light bulb fragments, cigarettes, hair, jewelry and more.
